Jessie's funeral and memorial Cassie's last remaining grandparent, Jessie Nicholson nee Vanderhoven (her father's mother) died on 5 March 2000 at the age of 91. At her funeral, Cassie met for the first time John Nicholson, whose father Henry (1907-1969) was younger brother to Cassie's grandfather Alfred Wilkin Nicholson (1906-1971). John had had some professional research done into the Nicholson name, and this was invaluable in giving Cassie some new leads to follow up. Cassie was also pleased to be given her grandmother's photograph albums. On Thursday 22 February 2001, members of the Vanderhoven and Nicholson families gathered with friends and neighbours to remember Jessie and to inter her ashes with her husband Alfred and daughter Cynthia in Maidstone.
